Tropical Girls Week at Turtle Cove Resort Returns 7 October

Grab your partner and week's worth of bathers and be off to Tropical Queensland 7-11 October.  It's Tropical Girls-Only Week at Turtle Cove Beach Resort - a bit of lesbian and gay paradise located between Cairns and Port Douglas.

If you can gather yourself off the pool chaise or off their private part of  Wangetti Beach, take the day trip to the Barrier Reef on the Friday.  Snorkel and five your hearts out.

The Girls Week package looks like good value for 4 nights, so book before it sells out.

I haven't been to Turtle Cove since change of ownership and it's makeover. Be sure to share your feedback if you go to this event. Looks like perfect getaway - if only I had someone to share it with!

Badly in need of a tropical weekend of fun, relaxation and cocktails by the pool, my partner and I checked in at Turtle Cove - me, for the third time and my partner, for the first.

Turtle Cove hasn't changed. What it lacks in five star luxury, it makes up for in exceptionally friendly and efficient service and a bucket load of fun.

If you're looking for a luxurious room with full amenities, overlooking an infinity pool, stay in Port Douglas. But if you want to mix, make new friends, be yourselves, even nude-up, this is the place for you!

The bar opens early and stays open late. It's location beside the pool is ideal for a banana lounge and a constant supply of Coved Iced Tea (a deadly mix of every white spirit known to man).

Breakfast is served in the bar each morning and included in your accommodation. Lunch and dinner is available for purchase. The rooms are a little worse for wear, but that's part of TC's charm. You will need to overlook some things, but overall, it's worth it for the atmosphere.

If you're planning on a quiet, romantic holiday at Turtle Cove where you keep to yourselves, you may have a wonderful time, but you're missing a unique experience to share a small window of time with other guests, either male or female. My experience of Turtle Cove, each visit, was made richer by the new friends made and the fun we had together.

On our recent visit, we found ourselves in the spa at 1am in the morning, with two lovely boys, sharing a drink and talking about our lives (amongst other things!)and it helped make our trip all the more memorable.

What really shines at Turtle Cove is the staff. On our second last day, the heavens opened and the rain set in. With no chance of a tan by the pool, or a dip in the ocean, we headed to the bar for coffee, feeling a little lost (not to mention hungover). Out of the blue, our bartender offered to fetch Avatar from his car and play it for us on the big screen, essentially turning the bar into a movie theatre for the morning. One by one, the boys joined us and again, a memorable occasion was born. Bet you don't get that at any Marriott or Sheraton!

If you've heard rumours about Turtle Cove being 'straightened', don't believe them. The Cove is still here and still queer. So queer in fact that if you're easily offended, you'll need to avoid channels 1,2 & 3 on the TV in your room and opt for 'normal' programming.

In short, the Turtle Cove experience is one of complete relaxation mixed with as much fun as you want to make it.

Oh and my partner? She's counting the days until we return.
